DATING THACH LAC: CRYPTIC CaCO3 DIAGENESIS IN ARCHAEOLOGICAL FOOD SHELLS AND IMPLICATIONS FOR 14C

چکیده

ABSTRACT In many locations around the world, shell radiocarbon dates underpin archaeological research. The dating of brings chronological relationship between sample and target event (e.g., hunting food preparation) into congruence, while shells are valuable geochemical proxies for understanding past climate dynamics environments. However, this information can be lost as shell, composites biopolymers carbonate minerals (mostly calcite or aragonite), undergo diagenetic alteration. While studies Pleistocene-age carbonates common in literature, there has been little research impact alteration on Holocene-age used to interpret recent societal developments. limits our these changes became evident when Placuna placenta (naturally calcitic) Tegillarca granosa aragonitic) from site Thach Lac Vietnam. These returned ages significantly younger than associated charcoal terrestrial bone at site, but standard tests secondary recrystallization (XRD staining techniques) did not indicate any Further investigation revealed that cryptic (i.e., same crystal structure) had occurred both aragonite shells. This finding suggests may have an undetected some dates.

Millets for Food and Nutrition Security in India: Determinants and Policy Implications

Background: Food security has been a target in India since its independence; the primary aim of food security is to ensure enough staple food for the entire population. Although substantial progress was made through the adoption of green revolution (GR) technologies and implementation of the food public distribution system (PDS), desirable food and nutrition security, as defined by the food and...

The Late Cenomanian-Coniacian Gattar and Aleg reservoirs in Sidi Bouzid area, Central Tunisia: Logging, diagenesis and reservoir implications

At the Sidi Bouzid area located in Central Tunisia, Cenomanian-Turonian reservoir rocks are well outcropping, especially in the Jebel el Kébar and Meloussi areas. The present work confirms that these carbonate intervals constitute the lateral equivalent of the Early-Middle Turonian Biréno and Late Turonian-Coniacian Douleb reservoir Members which are included within the pelagic marls of the Tur...
